It was discovered on February 27, 1995 at 12:05 a.m. Hawaii-Aleutians Standard Time by David Jewitt and Jun Chen at Mauna Kea Observatory 25 miles southeast of Kamuela, Hawaii, USA(155W28/19N49), at 4 Libra 42(Tropical).
