Sing peace into Her breast

July 26, 2011
Amy Jade Winehouse 1983-2011

Away with us she’s going
The solemned eyed
She’ll bear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into her breast
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal chest

Come away oh human child
To the waters and the wild
For the world’s more full of weeping
Than you can understand.

~from The Stolen Child by W.B. Yeats

  1. That’s a beautiful photo of her, before all the drugs and tattoos.

  2. Where do you find these incredible, beautiful poems and sayings. What a Celtic keening wilding this one is, and so suits Amy, who looks better here than I have seen her look in forever, it seems. I lovet this..

  3. Goodness, you don’t know “The Stolen Child” by W.B. Yeats. It’s a verse from that poem, which is so resonant with the experience of ‘mental illness’ for people. I was so sad about Amy; her voice was laced with the Divine.

  4. Yes, I really wanted to ‘remind’ people that there was a vulnerable feminine soul under there; somebody’s daughter.
