I think of Elsie to this very day.
I’d remember how’d she turn to me and say:
“What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.”
Today, 3 September, Elsie Wheeler, dreamcatcher of the Sabian Symbols, celebrates her 124th birthday!
Hatched in 1887, Elsie the youngest of five children (who were all orphaned after 1894) was confined to a wheelchair, a shut-in since she was three, with rheumatoid arthritis. In the 1900, 1910 and 1920 US Census, she is listed as being resident at the Bethesda Hospital and Home for the Incurables in St. Louis, Missouri.
Moving to San Diego, at some time in the late 1920s, Elsie lived with Frank Baxter ~ a gentleman barber who was listed as being her uncle for the sake of appearances. Joining the Indoor Sports Club, she was one of its most enthusiastic members. An aviation enthusiast, Elsie was treated to an air trip back to St Louis, as a guest of Lester Prosser, a pilot with his own plane (eek!) While a destructive hurricane hit St Louis on the day Elsie was supposed to arrive, it is almost certain that Prosser chose not to fly into a storm and the trip was postponed (phew!) However, Mrs Prosser treated Elsie to a new Spring wardrobe……..it’s all about the frocks.
One day in San Diego in 1925, astrologer Marc Edmund Jones and spiritualist-medium Elsie sat in a car, all day, at Balboa Park in San Diego, Elsie catching the visuals out of the ethers while Marc recorded the images she saw. The entire set of 360 Sabian Symbols was visualized by Elsie and recorded by Marc ~ which is extraordinarily manic and I do wonder what the bloody rush was about! And how weird that the actual date was never recorded by MEJ: a man whose lifes work was all about looking up dates…………
Elsie says her backside was awfully numb!
Update on the No Date
There was no doubt about the time and place of their development, however, Marc deliberately hid the time to prevent silly astrologers from trying to cast a chart of their birth and make their own interpretation about it. ~ by Dr. Frank R. Kegan, Psy. D. at OnlineClarity.co.uk who engages in a most interesting debate. Worth reading.
November 1938, Elsie wheeled out of this universe at the age of 51 (eek!); an ordained minister in the Spiritual faith, whom folks from all walks of life had beaten a path to her door for years, seeking advice on all matter of things.
Known best in the Indoor Sports club, Elsie zoomed about in her little wheelchair, spreading sunshine among other handicapped persons. Often she would encourage a handicapped friend, who was not as bad off as herself, yet she always said: Don’t give up ~ there’s lots to life for!
Frank died in 1948 after being hit by a bus.
Elsie’s IC/MC axis ~ the spine of the natal chart ~ Leo/Aquarius 7º: The constellations in the sky/A child born of an eggshell.
